Replevin

an action to recover the plaintiff's personal property that the defendant refused to return. A sheriff returned the property to the plaintiff before any judicial hearing. The hearing determined whether the plaintiff should maintain possession of the property. The plaintiff had to post a Replevin Bond insuring that the property would be returned to the defendant if the plaintiff lost the case. Plaintiffs used Replevin to challenge an attachment of their goods by the sheriff, who often appeared as a defendant in Replevin cases.
